bd2 has launched its proprietary SEO audit tool for the backoffice of Umbraco Version 17.

There are lots of analytics tools, such as Google’s GA4, that provide a wealth performance data for any site that uses them. This data can then be used to make changes within a site to ensure its optimised across all aspects, including SEO.

Our new page audit tool brings SEO data into the Umbraco backoffice so that editors and search specialists can instantly check whether all the necessary data is in place, such as the meta title, description, Canonical URL, H1 tags, image alt tags and so on. It produces a traffic-lighted check list with all items in place marked with a green tick, any issues with a yellow warning triangle and any missing items with a red cross.

Umbraco’s backoffice has always provided complete control over all the meta data within the site and this can be accessed within the SEO button right next to the audit button so, armed with the findings of the audit, any issues can be quickly fixed.

The tool joins a wealth of new features in V17 to create a backoffice to match high-end enterprise CMS platforms which typically have 5 or 6 figure annual licence fees, whereas Umbraco, being Open Source, is licence free. The solution, which is recognised by G2 and CMS Critic with numerous awards across all criteria, has an array of best-of-breed features including:

AI for editors is now built in to Umbraco’s backoffice.

Umbraco.AI, is now available in V17 as an open-source foundation that sits inside the backoffice and connects to the AI provider of your choice. It supports OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google Gemini, Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft AI Foundry, and others, all through a consistent interface.

This adds practical tooling that editors can use with prompts that trigger AI actions directly from the properties they are working on, such as generating SEO titles and meta descriptions, creating alt text for images, summarising page content, rewriting or improving copy, translating content into other languages and even converting audio files into text. These prompts appear as buttons on the relevant fields, so editors can run them with a single click without leaving the page they are editing. By automating repetitive tasks it allows editors to focus on creating quality content.

User-friendly editors that display the front-end in the backoffice in a near identical style.

Umbraco is renowned as the CMS that offers the best and most intuitive editing experience, recognised with numerous awards from G2 and The CMS Critics Awards.

In the latest versions, the editor experience has moved to a whole new level with content blocks that are displayed in the editors displaying the front-end content in a very similar style to the front-end pages themselves, so editors get a close to ‘what you see is what you get’ experience.

This speeds up content editing because the user doesn’t have to use the ‘preview’ button and click on a new tab to view their changes in the web pages as often. Each element - text and image - is simply clicked on and edited within the block with changes instantly visible.

The V17 backoffice can include load balancing for better performance and improved resilience within a simpler infrastructure model.

For lager organisations, with multiple teams or many departments making changes within their websites, the backoffice can now scale to manage high volumes of content changes to improve editorial productivity. The backoffice is no longer a bottleneck for large organisations - such as membership, multi-brand, enterprise or global organisations - with large editorial teams where there are high levels of publishing activity or multiple websites.

For example; during an annual conference, a professional membership body would have communications, events, marketing and membership teams all publishing content simultaneously. Rather than competing for system performance, every team can continue working efficiently during periods of peak editorial demand.

Umbraco Engage brings a level of user-profiling, personalisation, analytics and split testing to rival any high-end level platform.
